Biography
Mr. Novak, in his pursuit of a legal career, has been recognized for his diligent advocacy and has proven his dedication to the administration of justice through his service. He emphasizes that each client is unique and he focuses his efforts on obtaining the best results possible through high quality legal representation. He is a native Russian speaker and has been recognized repeatedly for his service to various communities.
Mr. Novak is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of New Jersey. In that capacity, he has represented individuals, corporations, and organizations with regard to civil, criminal, and governmental issues. As a civil litigator in multidisciplinary general practice boutique law firm with a concentration in municipal government and civil litigation matters, Mr. Novak represented clients in all phases of litigation from pre-trial, depositions, arbitration, mediation, through trial in both state and federal court. He has also represented numerous public entities in his role as an associate attorney practicing under a municipal solicitor, planning board solicitor, zoning board of adjustment solicitor, and municipal public defender.
Previous to beginning the private practice of law, he was employed as a Judicial Law Clerk in the Civil Division of the New Jersey Superior Court, where his experiences included the administration of a civil docket, including hands-on exposure to litigation dealing with the following issues: Environmental, Complex Commercial, Law against Discrimination, Whistleblower/Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA), Defamation, Toxic Torts, Professional Malpractice, Product Liability, Assault and Battery, Condemnation, Civil Rights, UM/UIM Claims, Auto Negligence, Personal Injury, Contract/Commercial, Employment, Construction, Open Public Records Act (OPRA), Lemon Law, PIP Coverage, Insurance Coverage Disputes, Debt Collections,and Name Changes. He was also trained by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts in “Mediation and Conciliation Skills” and was responsible to mediate cases throughout his employment with the New Jersey Judiciary. As a result, he regularly mediated cases with a high rate of settlement. While clerking, he was recognized for his strong writing, communication, and analytical skills.
Prior to his government service, he served as a Certified Legal Intern for the Children’s Justice Clinic at Rutgers School of Law – Camden. There, he was responsible for providing all aspects of legal representation to juvenile clients. He was credited with his role in obtaining a pre-trial dismissal for a wrongfully charged juvenile after extensive briefing. He was interviewed and quoted in The Philadelphia Inquirer’s article on the Children’s Justice Clinic as a result of his contributions.
During law school, he was named to the First Year Honors List, the Dean’s List, was a Hunter Moot Court Finalist, and obtained highest grade in class on numerous occasions. While there, he was employed in various sectors of the legal industry, always striving to gain experience in the sharpening of his legal research and drafting skills. This includes a law clerk position with a criminal law practitioner during which he drafted arguments for an oral argument in front of the New Jersey Supreme Court. State v. Pena-Flores, 198 N.J. 6 (2009). Simultaneously, he held another law clerk position with a general practice law firm which was awarded the highest rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He was also given the opportunity to serve as a judicial intern in the Presiding Judge’s chambers in the Family Part of the Superior Court. In addition, as a result of his dedication to public service throughout law school, he was awarded The Pro Bono Publico Service Award by Rutgers Camden School of Law.
Rudy attended Montclair State University for his undergraduate studies in business administration. While there, he was repeatedly named to the Dean’s List and was consistently recognized for his service to the Montclair State Community.
During his free time, Rudy volunteers throughout the community, including fundraising for various organizations.
